INSTALLATION
GUIDE

A complete step-by-step walkthrough for fitting your graphics kit like a pro.

Step by Step

Follow these steps for a clean, lasting install. Take your time — the prep is everything.

1

GATHER YOUR TOOLS

You'll need: heat gun or hair dryer, soft plastic squeegee, isopropyl alcohol (70%+), clean microfibre cloths, plastic-safe adhesive remover, and good lighting. Have everything within arm's reach before you start — a disorganised workspace leads to rushed installs and lifted edges.

2

REMOVE OLD GRAPHICS

Use your heat gun on low-medium heat to warm the existing graphics. Work in sections — heat then pull slowly at a low angle. Apply remover to any leftover adhesive and wipe clean. Don't rush this step. Adhesive residue left on the plastic is the number-one reason new kits fail to bond properly.

3

CLEAN THE PLASTICS

Wipe down every panel with isopropyl alcohol. Make sure there's zero residue, no wax, no grease, no fingerprints. This is the most important step — any contamination will cause lifting later. Work panel by panel and let the alcohol fully evaporate before moving on.

4

LET THE PLASTIC COOL

After cleaning and removing old graphics, let the plastic return to room temperature. Cold or very hot plastic affects adhesion and makes it harder to position the graphic accurately. Allow 10–15 minutes before applying. This is a good time to lay out all panels and identify which graphic goes where.

5

TEST FIT FIRST

Before peeling, dry-fit each panel against the plastic. Confirm orientation and alignment. Note any tricky edges, vents, or mounting points you'll need to work around. Doing this dry run will save you from committing to a misaligned graphic that's already stuck down.

6

PEEL AND POSITION

Peel the backing from one corner. Position carefully — the adhesive is forgiving initially but sticks firmly after pressure. Align to reference edges on the plastic before committing the full surface. A second pair of hands is useful on larger panels like shrouds and side plates.

7

SQUEEGEE FROM CENTRE OUT

Apply with firm, even pressure using the squeegee, working from the centre toward edges. This pushes air bubbles out and prevents trapping. Use overlapping strokes and don't skip any area — small bubbles left unaddressed will expand in the heat and become visible over time.

8

USE HEAT ON CURVES

On complex shapes and edges, use your heat gun to gently warm the graphic while stretching it into place. Don't over-heat — 5–10 seconds at a time is plenty. Stretching warm graphics prevents wrinkles and allows the vinyl to conform to compound curves that would otherwise bubble or crease.

9

FINISH THE EDGES

Tuck and wrap edges firmly. Apply heat and squeegee pressure to lock them down. On recessed areas — bolt holes, vent grills, screw points — cut carefully with a sharp craft blade at a shallow angle. Clean cuts are invisible; torn edges will lift and catch on branches and gear.

10

CURE TIME

Allow 24 hours before riding. Avoid high-pressure washing for 48 hours after installation to ensure the adhesive has fully bonded. The X1 UltraCurve's solvent-based acrylic adhesive reaches full strength at ambient temperature — give it time and it'll stay on through everything you can throw at it.

PRO TIPS

  • ◆ Install indoors — wind and dust are your enemies.
  • ◆ Room temperature 18–25°C is ideal. Cold plastics crack, hot plastics stretch unevenly.
  • ◆ Have a spray bottle of soapy water handy for repositioning if needed in the first few seconds.
  • ◆ Go slow. A careful 3-hour install beats a rushed 1-hour re-do.
